The Walnut Valley Festival's AcoustiKi♪s showcase, Winfield's Acoustic Kids, was fun for everyone in spite of the chilly weather. Thanks to everyone: kids, parents, and loyal supporters of the kids and the program -- who braved the cold, the rain, and the early hour to come together for two-hour sets of youngsters strutting their stuff on Friday and Saturday mornings. Once again, Andy May hosted Merle's Kids, MerleFest's AcoustiKi♪s showcase. He was assisted by Larry Skipper and Lauren May.

The turnout was fantastic, and the kids and their parents were a treat to work with. We had some wonderful talent again this year, with several veterans returning for their third year (or more!), and many new recruits joining the ranks. There was everything from step dancing to yodeling, with plenty of mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and singing in between. Two kids performed songs they had written.

As always, the audience, a crucial factor in the success of the program, was welcoming and supportive of the kids.

We're already looking forward to next year's showcase!
